One Unhappy Horse is the moving story of Jan, a young girl who’s coping with the death of her father and caring for her ailing horse, Dove. Set in Arizona, the book details Jan’s friendship with an elderly woman named Mattie, who sees her own childhood in her young friend’s bond with a beloved horse. Mattie eventually gives the gift of life by helping Jan pay for Dove’s surgery.
