Perfect for kids age 9 and older
After doing a research paper for her talented and gifted class, sixth-grader Erin Wrenn learns how cruelly circus animals are treated. Now her class is going on a field trip to see the Glitter Tent Circus, and she knows it’s wrong to go. When Erin sees Lilly, one of the elephants, walking out of a circus trailer with her feet chained, the biggest challenge of her life begins. Erin’s teacher wants the class to have a wonderful experience at the circus, but Erin and her friend David can’t ignore what they know about how the animals are treated. So, going against their teacher, they start a campaign at school to stand up for what they believe is right! This includes doing something very special to get Lilly out of the circus and into a safe place to live.
Meet the Author
When author Peg Kehret was young, she loved animals and stories so much that she had to choose between becoming a writer or a veterinarian. She may have chosen to be a writer, but she’s never forgotten about her love for animals and includes them in many of her books. For years she and her husband, Carl, traveled around the country with their pets to speak at schools and libraries. She now lives on a small wildlife sanctuary in Washington with her shelter dog and two rescued cats.
