Why do poachers hunt rhinos?

I just joined this group a few minutes ago, so I haven't read the book, but IMO poachers hunt rhinos and other animals for greed, for $. Many are selfish and many are ignorant - they do not consider what they are doing to be cruel or they do not care. In many cases they obviously do not respect the animals - as in the cases of elephants whose tusks are cut out while the elephants bodies are left to rot in the sun, even with their babies nearby :-(!!!!!!!!!!

You are right Carrie. Greed and ignorance drives most animal poaching, and the two together is a deadly combination. In my book Our Secret, Siri Aang, the baby rhino is present when the mother is killed. In another one of my books, Jubela, which is based on a true event in Swaziland, the baby was present when his mother was shot by poachers, but it has a happy surprise ending which gave me the same happier ending for Siri Aang.
